Got some new stuff for winter:
- REI All Season insulated air mattress – 18 oz. and R 5.3 rating
- Deuter Air Contact 65+10 backpack, 4 lbs. 6 oz. – replaces my 7 1/2 lb. Dana Terraplane
- Eddie Bauer Peak XV down expedition parka – For evenings and mornings in winter camp.
My tent is the well used Tarptent Moment DW with a crossing pole for heavy snow loads. It also makes the tent freestanding so it is not dependent on stakes to keep it erect. I still use buried deadman sticks for guy lines.

I am interested in knowing why you have given up on the scarp for winter use and favor the Moment now?
Sep 25, 2019 at 7:21 pm #3611707I bought the Peak XV when it was on sale this spring per your recommendation. The thing is a beast. I’m actually kind of hoping for weather cold enough to wear it!
