The new Member Trip Reports Forum is now live!

    Key features include:

    • Standardized trip metadata (e.g., region, duration, season, trip type) captured at submission (and editable by the TR author) and displayed consistently as non-clickable chips on both the forum index and individual report pages.
    • Filter/Search by region, season, trip type, title keywords.
    • Reports that include photos or a YouTube video are automatically flagged with media icons, enabling faster identification of visual field documentation.

We are currently working on an LLM strategy to categorize the 3,000+ trip reports that are currently archived in this forum. That’s a challenging endeavor and will take some time, but categorization options are now available for all TR’s moving forward.

Enjoy and let us know if you encounter any issues!

There’s no trip type for a simple multi-day backpack trip (i.e., that might piece together multiple trails or might include both trail and off-trail)?

Todd – that’s kind of the default for most trips. The other trip type tags are meant to add nuance as needed.

Okay…  So I’m supposed to pick “All trip types” from the dropdown list?  Seems like there ought to be a simple Backpacking or Multi-day hiking option.

Also, it seems a little odd that there’s one option that gives only the length of the trip (Day trip).  Could be hiking, biking, skiing, canoeing, hunting, fishing, etc.  I’m guessing that one’s meant to be Day hiking?

Todd, we added some helper text to the “post new trip report” form to help clarify:

Most trips are multi-day backpacking by default. If your trip is different – or can be characterized with additional attributes – add one or more of the following tags:

    Does that make sense?

    Yes, that helps.
