Hm…looks like the shell fibers are treated with DWR, before being woven into a fabric. Sounds kinda like “Epic.”

Any opinions on this? Personally I would love to have a rain shell that can let water vapor out (to the extent that any of them do) and does not wet-out!

Where do they say that ?

Have you looked at the Gore Tex Shake Dry such as the Arc’teryx Norvan SL or TNF Hyperdry(?), or the Columbia Outdry EX?

Always cool to see new fabrics being developed. Looking forward to seeing some user reviews on this stuff

I will put my vote in for Columbia’s Outdry EX Light shell (https://www.columbia.com/mens-outdry-ex-light-shell-1711881.html). It is fairly light and pretty breathable. Plus, zero wet out. Ever. I have really tested mine with great success. No wet out even after days of continuous rain.

I interpreted this “The superior waterproofing is created by bonding the DWR treatment with the yarn at the molecular level” as meaning that the yarn is treated before being woven into a fabric. Am I mistaken?

Typically for a patent, the language is not that clear that you can easily conclude what you’re saying. I don’t say you’re wrong; I just need another reading.

I think this is the company doing their new durable DWR: https://www.greenthemetek.com

I can’t see that they identify the hydrocarbon they are using as the hydrophobic agent.

I think the new Columbia stuff trumps this for WPB gear, but I would love to see this new DWR on windwear, provided the hydrocarbon is not more toxic than the fluorocarbons in traditional DWRs and it really is as durable as claimed.

Typical movie from a company who wants to show that their claim that their product is better then anything else but we don’t know if and how they had to manipulate the test in their favor.

The use of hydrocarbon in DWR is nothing new. Ever heard of … Nikwax.
