“We see this jacket demonstrating its true value on missions that are short and don’t require heavy packs; like light mountain climbing and speed hikes. Backpackers with heavier loads or thru-hikers that have light packs but intended to use it every day for 6 months would be better off going with a different option.’

Interesting.

Seems like most Shakedry jackets are in the “Running” category. So why not make a hybrid jacket with 3 layer Goretex for the shoulders and high wear area, then Shakedry for the torso. Seems like that would be the best of both worlds.

Gore has recently released a Shakedry Jacket for backpacking and mountaineering.  It’s more expensive, and they don’t list a weight, but I imagine that we will see more manufactures bring jackets with that fabric to market unless it has major issues.

Decent review here. He states 9 oz. for his size medium. Also reviews the H5 hybrid pant.

Doug, that appears to be a DWR shell, is it not?  I think some confusion comes from the fact that I believe the “new”  Shakedry jacket has the same name as the previous jacket made out of traditional Gore-Tex Active.  That’s not even getting into the fact that they have marketed Shakedry as Active, even though Active is also a traditional  3L material.

No idea, to be honest. It’s the only thing I could find. Going to Gore’s site and looking around I couldn’t find much. Is this new jacket the R7 Trail Hooded jacket? That says only with a light pack. If you have a link to the jacket you’re referring to please include it, I’d be interested in seeing the jacket/reading a bit more about it.

Or is it this one, which still mentions a light pack.
