I have one of the very first NeoAir XLite mummy shaped pads and always felt that it was too tapered. For me, the widest point was just above my shoulders and I felt it tapered down too narrow once at my hips, so I would awaken at night with my hip just off the pad.
Recently, I purchased a NeoAir XTherm pad to replace my old XLite. I went with the XTherm, because a local consignment shop had a brand new XTherm for half the price of an XLite goes for, so justified the few extra ounces for the savings and rationalized the considerably higher R-Value would offset a warmer sleeping kit and could get pushed further into the shoulder seasons.
It was immediately noticeable that my new XTherm pad has a wider taper till down past my hip and I’m awaking less by my hip and elbows on cold hard ground. In addition, this new pad has noticeably less crackle sound than my original Xlite.
Does anyone know if the current XLite pads have the same taper as the XTherm or does the XTherm have a slightly wider taper because they’re intended for more cold weather use?
I’m planning to buy another pad for a family member.
Thanks!
