I was thinking about buying a full length NeoAir X-Lite or X-Therm, but now I think I’ll wait until the new NXT’s come out after the new year. They’re supposed to be far quieter and .5 inches thicker than current models. Warmer too, 4.5 R and 7.3 R respectively. And the X-Therm NXT regular weighs 1.5 oz less at 15.5 oz. (X-Lite NXT .5 oz more).

Love TAR pads, but they are a no-go with me until they abandon that stupid winged valve and install a flat valve.
No Uber lite updates?
What’s the problem with the winglock valve?
schnozzel compatible with a minor hack.

It doesn’t really work any better than the nozzle that it replaced and retains the low flow.  Flat valves fill and empty so much more quickly and easily and do not stick out…another downfall of the TAR valve.
You can use an unmodified nylofume (or probably any garbage/compactor) bag to inflate the wing lock valves easily. The classic valves work, but it’s trickier to get a seal around the smaller valve and the lower flow rate makes it that much trickier. At first the bulk of the new valves bothered me. But being able to easily inflate a large pad with the pack liner I was carrying anyway was a gamechanger!
I can inflate a large wing lock valve Uberlite with two nylofume pack liners worth of air. Firm it up with a small breath or two.
The schnozzel can attach to the Thermarest inflation adapter in the inflation bag. I cut it out of the bag. Attach the adapter to the winglock valve and then attach the schnozzel. Â Takes little more than 2 pumps of the schnozzel for my large Xtherm.
I like the reduced noise and the valve is good enough IMO, but I still don’t sleep as well on their horizontal baffles as I do on lengthwise baffles. Would love to see them flip that on the NeoAirs to match what Nemo, Exped etc do.
@bajabob – thank you, great tip.
Now I know how iPhone users feel.
What I have is good, but that looks even better. Maybe I should wait … but the new stuff looks really good …
Available now.
Where is it available? This is exactly what I was looking for.
Rei, Backcountry, Amazon, thermarest site, etc
None of them, exactly why I asked.

Baja Bob, can you show a photo of how you are doing ⬆️this?
Got the NXT last night and
1) It’s definitely quieter.
2) I can have it a bit soft and not bottom out a hip laying on my side.
3) Even at 5’6” I might not trim it down because this 72×25 size is LUXURIOUS and probably worth the 4 ounces (I didn’t weigh it yet) over my women’s 66×20.
I need to check the fit in my MLD/YMG bivies. I think they are big enough?
I am tentatively very excited about getting better sleep in the backcountry.
Borah will make you a bivy of any size you need also.
Here’s a link to how I did it.
You can test it out without cutting the adapter from the bag.
Well, the new NXT pads sound great (pun intended) but I couldn’t resist the closeout deal on the old Xtherm. The Xtherm has been in chronically short supply for several years in Europe and virtually never goes on sale. The RW version of the new Xtherm NXT is price at 264€, which at today’s exchange rate is US$288. I’ll sleep better knowing that I paid much much less than that to get the “old” model. I’ve had so many problems with TAR sleeping pads over the years that I tend to expect the worst anyway.
However, I do still have an old Xtherm short. Now there’s something useful that they don’t make anymore.
Sorry to interrupt the party. The NXT versions look cool!

They’re available from Ultralightoutdoorgear in the UK, though some sizes are already out of stock.
Question: is the Winglock valve supposed to be two-way? Or should it only let air back out after you flip the yellow wing?
The yellow wing on my XTherm NXT is closed, but the valve leaks air. Wasn’t sure if is normal. Doesn’t seem right…
Yes, it has dual levers. Thermarest site has a nice video describing it.

Thanks, yep, mine is defective for sure. Air comes right back out when in inflate mode, like the valves on old pads. Will exchange at REI…
Thanks for the photos, Baja Bob.
I’m thinking I could just 3d print an adapter using flexible filament. it looks like it could just live on pad full time. I’ll order a schnozzle with the gift card REI sent when I purchased the NXT and report back.
I see we have been talking about schnozzle adapters for a long time.Â
Matthew – Exped sells what they call a universal adapter for the Schnozzle. Maybe that’s been mentioned already.
Also, I have a spare Schnozzle bag if you want it.
