Background. I’ve gone from a self inflating Thermarest to an Exped Ultra 7. Blowing out a baffle after many years , Exped sent me a Ultra Duo replacement. Both fairly comfortable. I followed up with a Thermarest Xtherm NXT. To say I loved that pad would be a lie. I replaced it with a ZenBivy Flex mat. I’d probably love it, if I was a lighter person. Bought a NTE last week. (Backcountry on sale.) Is it the most comfortable pad I’ve ever had? Topping even the Exped? Simple answer.  Yes. A little care when pulling the cap for adjusting the air volume. A Shcnozzle should fit it. The Nemo inflation bag is of adequate size, but has a weird shape. The fabric appears to be durable. I haven’t tried the rock test.

I heard the NTE is a slippery little dickens.  Any issues with that?

I can confirm a Schnozzel will fit and inflate the Tensor Extreme.

The inflated NTE at first slipped out of my hands.  Partly because it’s a little thicker with smaller dimples. Harder to grab. It feels slicker than my comparables. In practice, I think it’s on par with the ZenBivy and the NXT with the Exped being the least slippery. I have a ZB sheet on the NTE which helps some. The sheet fits the NTE better and stays on better than it does with the ZB Flex.

When my REI Flash R 5.3 winter inflatable got an “unfindable” leak I decided the new Thermarest X-therm NXT in size Large was for me. I like the extra width (but not the”extra cost”).

With my LL Bean  -20 F. down mummy I should be fine since that temperature is a comfort rating. Anything colder than -20 F means wearing my down booties, down pants and my light down jacket plus wool balaclava – and liner gloves. Gloves are often overlooked for winter sleeping but they are necessary.

I’ve used that combination in my WM 30F. mummy down to 15 F. and was cozy.
