My Trail Co UL Hooded Down Jacket Question

I currently own a MHW Ghost Whisperer and love it but as winter is getting colder it just doesn’t have enough fill weight to keep me warm. While searching for a warmer jacket for the dead of winter I came across this jacket from My Trail Co.

According to their website this jacket only weighs 13.5oz while having 145g (5.1oz) of 800 fill power down with a 20d shell. Comparing this to other jackets out their this just sounds too good to be true. Especially at $139.

Does anyone have any actual experience with this jacket who can confirm these specs seem reasonable?

Thanks!

check out the review on section hiker.

i second his opinion that the non-adjustable hood is a liability in the winter. and he didn’t mention it, but the zippers look cheap. i will not buy a jacket with cheap zippers or big floppy hoods. just me though.

price sounds good, until you consider the sales that happen every winter with other brands. i have purchased Eddie Bauer, Patagonia, and Rab jackets around 1/2 price regularly the past six or seven years. EB and Pata have major sales (50%) on their websites usually twice a year, and Rab can be found several places at steep discounts depending on the season.

I just took the plunge on the hooded hyperlight, 11oz total with 4.6oz 850 down for 200 and free delivery. We shall see…

I ordered a size large and ended up returning it. I am 5’10”  185lb with an average torso and slightly long arms. The chest was a good fit and the back nice and long but the sleeves were too short by a couple of inches. The elastic hood was also on the loose side. They aren’t the only ones to use elastic instead of a drawcord but my Hooded Flash (my wife’s now after post thru pounds) and my new FF Eos both are snugger.

I ended up spending the extra on a FF Eos and couldn’t be happier. The fit and construction details are both in a whole other league.

Similar story to my experience. I ended up purchasing a Rab Electron and it has been everything I was looking for in a down jacket so far. Wish I had the money for the feathered friends though
