Loved the Gossamer Gear G4, but a little tired of the flat ccf pad against my back. Plus, it’s worn and mended in several places.

I need a similar volume pack, since I run cold and carry more down that most. I believe the G4 was 3100ci 52 liters in the main body. I’ve been out of the gear market for a while so am now getting re-educated before making another backpack purchase. Expense is not my primary concern.

Contenders seem to be the Arc Haul Zip, ULA Catalyst, Granite Gear C2, and perhaps the Flex Capacitor.  The robic sounds like a good balance between light and tough. I’m particularly interested in the suspension, and comfortable and proper load transfer. I typically carry up to 25 lbs, definitely under 30.

Your experiences or recommendations?

Hi Kelly I to have a G4 that’s just about wore out I had one side pocket modified to make it shorter so I could get my water bottle out and have several hundred nights on it including two half AT thru’s the Ula catalyst isn’t much bigger pack based on the size of the main bag but it’s definitely feels much bigger on your back though it transfers the weigh to your hips 5 times better than the G4 did as my load got smaller I was able to actually downsize the pack and carry warmer gear that takes up less space, I use the Ula cdt and in the winter I add the gossamer gear airbeam for a frame if I’m carrying 8 to 10 days food and all my winter gear. I tried the C2 and the catalyst loaded and even played around with a flux at Trail Days but nothing seemed to be a significant Improvement over what I was already using, I still like the G4 but the hip belt with pockets on the cdt was a big Improvement for my style of hiking
