So I’m setting up this tent in my yard and just can’t get the fly  panel opposite the door to have a gap between the inner mesh. Anyone seen this or have any tips?

Thanks!

I have no experience with the newer NX versions, but is there a tie-out point on the back panel or along the hem?  Use of the back panel fly tie-out on my 2nd gen hubba was pretty much required for a good pitch.

I found the Hubba to benefit greatly from being fully guyed out.

Yep, there is one down low that I tried staking out at different angles with no success. There is a higher tie out near the peak but is only for storm worthy ness. There is plenty of room between the fly and inner on the door side, then about nil on the opposite side.

I agree it’s inconvenient, I usually just use lower tie-out point on the back panel. It might be a good idea to extend it with a cord.

Hubba NX, back panel

Anyway even with light wind the fly tends to touch inner mesh.
I haven’t tried staking out upper tie-out point yet.

How is this even possible?? They say it’s their best selling solo tent. Seems like a big design flaw from a very large tent manufacturer. I’ve tried utilizing all the pull-outs and with a trekking pole to pull the fly away, didn’t help.

Have you noticed condensation on the inner on that side?

I haven’t noticed more condensation on that side.

Usually I either get a lot condensation everywhere or almost none, depending on where and in what conditions I pitch the tent.

But you’re right it looks like a design flaw.

I don’t have an NX version, but the old Hubba had enough slack in the fly on the back side to be staked away from the inner. I wonder if maybe the corners are being staked out too tight? I seem to remember the distance the fly was away from inner would be reduced if the ends the of the tent were pulled out too far.

David: you called it! With the fly on and the inner not staked out it’s fine. A little disingenuous on MSRs part though. With the inner not staked out, the inner width is only 26”, not the 30” advertised. To get the spec’ed width, the inner needs staked out fully but then the fly touches the inner.

sigh
