Recently found an insanely sweet deal at my local thrift store. I got myself an MSR Dragonfly with 2 fuel canisters for $14.99 USD  !! :)

Problem is when I go to connect the fuel line, the male end is too large for the female end on the pump. (story of my life am I right??) But in all seriousness though…

Why is this? Was the guy using a bootleg pump? Has anyone ever heard of this problem?
Does anyone know where I can find reliable pumps that don’t completely suck like I am constantly hearing the MSR pumps do?

A Dragonfly pump is specific for that stove, and is different from the standard MSR pump.

A standard MSR pump will not fit on a Dragonfly fuel hose, which is what you seem to be experiencing.

A Dragonfly pump has a larger opening for the larger fuel pipe. They are typically all red, at least the current new replacement pumps are.

Just to be clear, the male part is too large or too long? I may be able to find your answer with a picture.

does anyone know of any 3rd part pumps compatible with the dragonfly that are safe, and more reliable than MSR’s? I hear MSR’s pumps are crap.

3.8 stars on 19 reviews falls short of awesome, but is no where near crap.

I’ve owned a handful over the years.  Had to lube a pump cup once.  Just noticed my current pump body is cracked, but I picked it up at the REI garage sale – could have missed it when I got it and I have on idea how old it is.  Intend to order a replacement.
