Has anyone tried pitching the 2017 MLD Solomid with an offset pole? The MLD website says an inverted V is no longer necessary and it seems the Solomid dimensions have changed from previous years. I’m curious how much room there is with an offset pole and how a sleeping pad/bag or bivy looks in one.

Some background: I used a 2017 MLD Duomid with Solomid XL inner tent on the John Muir Trail this year and found it to be generally great (fast to pitch, storm worthy); however, I’m 5’6″ tall and the Duomid felt overly big. I rarely used the vestibule and everything I had fit inside the inner tent. I’m mainly interested in the Solomid for its smaller footprint for general 3 season solo use.

The solomid 2017 pitches great with an offset pole, but i like a longer pole like the komperdell that goes to 145cm, the 130cm poles work with pole jack, room is plenty for solo use +gear. I am 5ft10 and found it plenty roomy. Sometimes i pitch it with pole towards the front, sometimes pitch it pole to the back, depending on how the ground lies, works either way. I havent tried it with an inner, but it works fine with bug bivies, or standard bivies

A Six Moon Designs Deschutes with Serenity net would be way cheaper and lighter.

Good info, thanks Andrew! I would probably use it with a bivy

I use the Komperdell 145cm poles with my Duomid. Nice poles, but mine unscrew sometimes.
