Hello!  I got out in the yard today and set up my new MLD Patrol.  I am using guylines and knots rather than using the line locks.  I had planned after some testing to remove the line locks.  However, nowI see that if I have the tarp set up high for ventilation and rain or wind blow in during the night, I can actually lower the tarp from inside the tarp–not getting wet.  If I use knots, I have to get out to the end of the guylines.  Anyone have experience with this?

Also, I received a bugnet which I tried to set up, but find that it doesn’t align with the loops inside the tarp.  It comes with some shock cord and I can make it work.  But before I start that, I am hoping someone can share a good way to place the bugnet inside the tarp–more to the front or more to the back.

Thanks!!

If it’s a Cuben Patrol you could just grab some of the stick on loops from zpacks and put them where they work best.

That is a definitely a possibility.  But since it came with an abundance of shock cord and clips, I am hoping someone else that has trodden this path can share insights.

I believe it should hook to the loops at the far end of the ridge- that’s what I did.

The tarp has 3 ridgeline clips. One at each end and one in the middle. The bugnet also has 3 ridgeline clips,  One at each end and one in the middle.  The ridgeline of the bugnet is  significantly shorter than the Ridgeline of the tarp. The differences perhaps 18 inches, although I didn’t measure it. But the three clips on the tarp ridge line do not line up with the three clips on the Bugnet ridgeline.  If I connect a clip from the bugnet to a clip on the tarp, it isn’t possible to connect the other 2 clips by simply clipping them together. Some  arrangement of guyline and or shock cord must be used.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Correct, I ran about 20 ” of shock cord from each end of my inner with a lineloc to adjust. I also staked out the corners with shock cord.</p>

Disclosure: I have not used this tarp/inner combo… That said, I believe the mitten hooks under the ridgeline are placed farther out to tension the ridgeline of the inner. That’s how it works on their Bug Bivy and the geometry looks similar. Regarding the shock cord, that’s going to give you some adjustability for higher and lower pitches along with the cord locks they give you.

I appreciate the info.  I’ll get it out in the yard again this week and experiment.  I don’t think I can clip the bugnet directly to the tarp ridgeline clips–they don’t match.  But I’ll confirm that and see what I can work up with the shock cord.  Of course I’d like to use as little shock cord, mitten clips, tent stakes as possible.
