Anyone used these new softshell fabric’d, waterproof membrane’d, seam-sealed jackets? Pretty damn innovating. I see that Patagonia has the Stretch Rainshow, same or different?
I tried them out today at a local shop – super comfortable. I can’t find the HH/MVTR numbers for the Ozonic or Apex, but I saw that the Kinetic is around 10/35. Apex is Goretex, so 35/20?
Anyone tried these in a real downpour? I’m hearing that DWR isn’t as effective on stretch-woven faces and that the face fabrics wet out quickly. But I’m curious about if they actually keep the water out as the HH numbers and seam-sealing would indicate.
Around town I love the quiet and comfort of softshells and would love to get real waterproofness on top. Since its a town jacket, I’m totally ok with less breathability that comes with a membrane. It could potentially replace a town rainshell and a softshell for me which would be cool – less jackets on the coat rack. And I won’t sound like a garbage bag at outdoor concerts in light rain. And I suppose I can see how it fits into the outdoor gear wardrobe too – seems best as rock climbers piece? (Apex would be way too heavy though)
