I am looking at making some slideshow style videos for some of my trips and wanted to get some advice. I am looking for something that will let me do simple text overlays on photos (and the occasional short video clip) and is easy to use. I have a PC with Windows 10 – what software do you recommend or is there something decent built in?

I found Keynote to do pretty much everything I need, as far as a slideshow that includes video clips, photos with text in any position etc. You pick the style of show then import the media and the text can be inserted in Keynote itself either on top of photos or between them.
Isn’t keynote for iOS only? I am currently playing around with the included Windows software, but it is either limited, or I can’t figure out how to make it work the way I want to.
Keynote is Mac software. The Windows analog, Powerpoint might do what you want.
Google Slides is free
