Greetings, I purchased my Big Agnes Fly Creek 2P tent 7 years back, it has served me well for for all these years as solo backpacking tent from deserts to snow camping and now its showing its age. I am looking for a replacement the tent and seeking recommendations on what is new in the tent landscapeĀ  in the last 7 yrs. My requirements are:

  1. Ultralight
  2. Free Standing
  3. Spacious for 1P

Tarptent just posted the set up video of the new version of the Bowfin 1s , so here it is :

About the weight of the BA Fly Creek 2 but side entry and can be set up fly and inner together.
Interesting ventilation options.
It takes a long wide mat with room on each side for extra bits.

To me this is a really good looking tent–and I used to use a Fly creek UL1. The steep sides would seem to shed snow well. Everything else about it is fine–roomy, bombproof, high ceiling, high fabric on the inner walls for wind and splash–with the one concern being, how well does it stand up to high winds?

Take a look at the Nemo Hornet 2.Ā  Not exactly free standing, but neither is the Fly Creek.Ā  Light weight with side entry.

TT Bowfin

BA Copper Spur HV UL1

Nemo Hornet 2P (as mentioned, not totally freestanding, but a great design).

thanks for the suggestions, I am leaning towards Nemo Hornet or Cooper Spur, I know BA Cooper Spur has good reputation but a dated design, I will have look if Nemo has any small design features which will make the experience a little better.

Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. I have the Copper Spur and the Hornet (mine is the Hornet 1P)… If a freestanding tent is wanted, I’d rather use the Copper Spur HV UL1 over the Hornet 2P as a 1-man tent. But either would be great.

The Copper Spur is probably the finest all-around design of the last ten years. If anything, newer fabrics and design tweeks have made it better.
