I lost my old one. Â Any idea where to get a replacement? Â They were lighter than Ti spoons, and didn’t have that metallic taste that Ti has.

GSI POUCH SPOON 9 inches and .6 oz and they sell them at REI
My old REI spoon weighed around .35 oz. Â Less than 60% of the weight of the GSI. Â Any suggestions for a spoon around 1/3 oz?
I was going by what the REI link you gave gives as the weight which was .5 for your old spoon and a half inch shorter, but I guess their weight is off
David,
I might have one. I’ll have to go search in the garage. PM me your address and I’ll send it to you if I still have it, which I’m pretty sure I do I had several at one time. I’ve switched to a long handled Sea to Summit long handled anodized Alpha spoon, which I like better but the surface is rough, not smooth, so it isn’t perfect.
I don’t know Nick I see on your blog that your long handled REI spoon weighed .56 oz  :0  ;)
Thank, Nick, I think I might take you up on that offer. Â By the way, why did you switch to Ti?
He talks about it in his blog An Ode to Spoons
MSR folding long handled spoon: .35 oz / 9.5 g – cost is under $4.  I switched from the long handled titanium spoon to this to save weight and it works just as well. Many of the sites I looked at have the spork option illustrated, but you can get it just as a spoon.
What’s it like cleaning those folding spoons? My idea of doing dishes is to rub them on snow or moss.
My dishwashing approach is the same, Philip. I always carry a half-bandana for cooking and sometimes a rub in the nooks and crannies is called for, depending on how fastidious one is. (I’m not)
Picking nits, recent REI and GSI plastic spoons are made with acetal polymer, aka Delrin or Duracon, not Lexan.
Delrin is not as tough as Lexan:

Starting around 2009, manufacturers removed Lexan (a polycarbonate polymer) from virtually all products that contact food due to concerns over BPA.

I had one of the REI lexan spoons a few years ago but returned it shortly after buying it because it stained badly from a curry-spiced freeze-dried meal. So David, that’s one thing to consider about the lexan. Anyone else ever find that lexan can stain?
I switched to the S2S anodized aluminum and liked it, lighter than ti (0.38 without the biner) but plenty strong, but the texture does tend to make cleaning more difficult. (What I should actually say is it takes extra licking, and even then it’s hard to get all the last remnants of sauces and such. Maybe I should blame my tongue not the spoon.)
Most recently I’ve gone to using an Optimus ti spoon, because it has a smooth bowl, and I do like that better, but the handle almost down to the bowl has a similar texture as the S2S, so still not perfect. And double the weight (0.74) of the S2S anodized.
I have the MSR folding spoon and don’t care for it. Got it for when my daughter joins me, it’s really light but flimsy compared to the metal or even lexan choices. I think it’s going to get left home on future trips.
I have had the plastic spoons get stained. I haven’t let that bother me though.  To quote the great Rhett Butler, “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn”.

+1
I love the stowability of the MSR folding spoon but it definitely takes on the color of the last thing it touched, and even the smell of food when it’s tomato based such as MH lasagne, or instant coffee.
I guess those last two items (the horror!) are proof that things like that really don’t bother me! :^)
Now, losing a spoon would IMHO be a disaster, so I carry a back-up in the form of a GSI telescoping spoon that weighs 6g. It’d be my primary except that the handle is way too short.
