Hi there,

I’m looking for a lightweight Thermo bottle for winter ski touring and hiking.
I came across the Montbell Alpine Thermo Bottle – does anyone maybe have experience with it or
can suggest an alternative?

Thank you,
Christoph

I use the Montbell Thermo. No complaints. Simple efficient, glove-friendly wide-mouth, design with lightweight Silicon cup/lid which is needed for drinking hot liquids. Temp keeping is directly related to capacity for all thermos bottles. I try to stay well hydrated in in Winter so chose the largest capacity so I can refill with snow throughout the day. Start out with hot water and drop in a few tea bags and refill with snow every few hours.

The Zojirushi 16 oz., 0.5 Liter will keep coffee HOT for 6-8 hours.

7.5 ounce, 212 gram weight for the 16 oz. size… 9 inches tall and 2 1/2 inch diameter the base

The flip-top lid latches shut and it locks. Very easy to hold, unlock, open and use with gloves or cold fingers. I use mine biking or will slip it into a backpack with no worries of it leaking.

FWIW, the Thermos Ultimate is another “alpine designed” bottle that has similarly spec’d capacity, heat retention, and weight to the Montbell. When I compared them side-by-side in the store I thought the Thermos 2-part stopper seemed like un-necessary dead weight.

Thanks guys!

Steofan, I’ve got a Zojirushi and I really like it for car and office use. However, I prefer a cup for the mountains to a) share tea and b) let it cool down better if it’s too hot.

Rick, that’s good to hear, I think I will have a closer look at the Montbell then. Weight wise they all seem to be in the same range..
