Hey everyone, I’m looking into upgrading my tent, I would like something that can handle moderate to high winds if necessary, and weighs under 3 lbs. I was looking at a few offerings from tarp tent, and a few other makers.
thanks!

Anyone have experience with the Tarptent Protrail in particular?
I would take a look at the tarptent stratospire 1. Very roomy with two doors and 2 big vestibules and side entry. Very bomb-proof in high winds. 2 1/4 lbs.
So much depends on your height, and if you want side entry or front entry. Weight and if you like to have a roomier space. Very subjective from one person to the next.
There was a pro trail thread going around on this site a couple days back.
Thanks for the suggestion! but I think I’ll take a little extra weight for the durability of the silnylon. Do you have any experience with the Moment?
I have used the original single wall Moment.
Obviously fast to set up , has a small footprint only requiring two guylines for windy days . can take a foot or so of snow with the external pole.
I later switched to the Notch because I always use trekking poile.
My Moment

and my Moment’s moment….

Awesome! Do you think the Protrail or the Moment would handle weather better?
Moment for sure.
For real wind check out the MLD Trailstar
The ProTrail , as with similar shaped tents, needs a lot of tension to resist side winds. With the Moment it’s almost difficult not to set it up correctly but still works better with the end into the wind.
