Hi hikers,
I am wanting to drop the weight of owning a TarpTent Rainbow (tent, stakes, pole = 1154g/40.7ounce). I have been looking at the Plexamid from Zpacks and contacted Joe. He emailed me back and said my 6’4″ height would fit the Duplex better BUT I am having a bit of a problem forking out $600 though. I have heard of guys buying a Cuben Fibre tarp (like a zpacks hexamid pocket tarp) and setting up a net tent or net bivy under it. Not only is this a lighter than a Zpacks option but a cheaper one too!
My questions are;
-is this a viable option for a 6’4″ person like me?
-how weather proof/resistant is this set up?
-I am after bug protection….not so much for the ‘bugs’ but more like snakes and other critters (I live in Australia) so this is a must
-Do guys attach the bug net to the tarp somehow?
-What manufacturers have UL bug tents/bivies?
Any info would be much appreciated.
