My family and I  are going to Lake Tahoe a week before we hike the JMT.  I am looking for some trails to hike that offers good fishing along the way.  I have hiked in Tahoe before and have never had any luck with fishing.  Can anyone offer some information?  My plan is to do day hikes along the TRT.  I will hike and fish around Desolation wilderness.  I am open to other trails around Tahoe.  Looking for hikes around 8-12 miles.

Thanks

Eric

Lake Aloha is pretty nice. Don’t know about the fishing there.

Dardanelles Lake is too, but only 3.5 miles in, though you could extend that a good bit and go to Round Lake or Showers Lake. Used to fish Dardanelles a lot when I was a kid. If I recall correctly, Rainbow Powerbait and garlic marshmallows were the ticket. Probably been 8 years since I’ve been there, though.

Lake Silvia and Lyons Lake off the road to Wright’s lake.  The whole Rockbound area has decent fishing.  Most of the fish are 8-10 inches, but what the heck.  If you wanted big fish you’d head to Pyramid Lake,

Paul is lying. There are no fish in the entire Desolation Wilderness area. Apparently the rabid bears & wolves ate them all up. Well, except for the piranhas. Do leeches count? There are tons of those even though the giant rattlesnakes regularly eat them. Have fun. ;)
