Trust what? That it will be waterproof? Probably. That it will be comfortable? No.

Poncho.

I think lightheartgear nylon – non-breathable rain jackets/pants are the way to go. It will never wet out. I was on the PCT this summer for 42 days. 40 of those days were sunny and no rain. Weather turned crazy on the last 2 days – Sep 1 and Sep 2 near the California/Oregon border. Temperature dropped to low 40’s, extremely windy and rain for the whole day for the next 2 days. I was glad I had the nylon rain jacket and pants. The only places where I was suffering was the wet shoes/socks/toes. And my hands as I had to keep removing my waterproof gloves for looking at phone, eating/pooping etc. My Meal-to-go lunch bars were frozen – it was that bad.

Freak weather. But it is best to have gear that will not fail. All these 2 layer or 3 layer jackets will eventually fail in day long events.

I was going to mention Moose Track Gear. He was doing custom coats for a good price. I have a half poncho coming early November. A rain skirt from 3 F UL to pair with it. It looks like he’s changed his business model and will start doing drops of various items. One thing he’s working on is a jacket/poncho combo which may be interesting.

MooseTrack Packs to be correct. He is still willing to do custom work.

I’ve posted links before for his DCF half poncho and another for the cowl. Right now, I’m 15th in line for a half poncho. Things are moving quickly.

He sent me pictures of what I would call a mid length poncho. I’ve been unable to post the pictures here for some reason. Along the same lines of the half poncho. Longer and designed to cover a small pack.

He makes a sil waterproof jacket, Nylon or poly or DCF or your choice. Custom made for $180 up to $270 for the DCF versions plus the cost of any added features. LHG is $30 less with no customization that I know of.

He’s a good guy. Admittedly spends time sewing rather than hanging around answering e-mails. Still fairly quick responses. A long lead time. Worth patronizing.
