knot suggestion?

I’m a fan of using knots and have moved away from linelocs. I’m stumped though as to how to replace the double hook apparatus featured on most zpacks shelters. any ideas? I know hardware like this is easy and works just fine, but most curious if there’s a knot based alternative that I can experiment with.

I’m a big fan of knots and knot-craft, too.  The double-hook thingie does look convenient to unclip, enter the tent, and then re-clip.  But it doesn’t need to all those webbing and Fastex bits.

To adjust the line, just use a taut-line hitch (with an extra loop or two for small or synthetic line).

For the clasp itself, how about a double fishing hook?

Cut off the barbs with a pair of dykes, round them with a file, emery paper, a belt sander or, you know, a rock.  Maybe spray them with some day-glo paint.  Much lighter and cheaper than the original.

Lots of double hooks are just bent, but some have their two shafts welded together.  Look in the fishing aisle to assess what size you want.  If I had to guess, I’d start with 2/0 “double naught” size.

thanks david. that’s a good idea for saving a couple grams, although I’d just not sweat it and just use the stock hardware since it would still be easier to tension and not require any work. mostly trying to come up with a knot/guyline only solution. playing around with prusik knots right now, but the best solution is still evasive. there’s gotta be a way!
