I’ve got a Western Mountaineering Nanolite quilt which I’ve been trying out recently. It’s not quite warm enough for me in the current UK winter, so I’ve been using it more as an over bag. This means I haven’t really experimented with the pad straps. From what I’ve seen online, the upper and lower straps are the ones which go around the pad, and the centre strap just stretches between the two sides of the quilt. I’ll need to try this out, but I suspect it might be quite awkward to get in\out of the quilt. I’m also not sure about adjusting it to prevent gaps.
I’m thinking about buying an Astralite which would be slightly warmer. This would have the same pad attachment system.
I’m also looking at the Katabatic Gear Palisade or Alsek quilts. Is the Katabatic Gear pad attachment better\worse than the WM one?
Perhaps someone has had both makes of quilt. It would be helpful to know how they compare. I’d have to order a Katabatic Gear direct from the USA, whereas there is a WM distributor\dealer here in the UK.
