I have purchased four Katabatic Elite bags since they were introduced and all were within 2/10ths of an ounce of the published weight which I find amazing.  For those of you with the Flex series bags, have you found a similar tolerance between the published weight and the actual weight?

I received a Flex 22 6′ regular and it is 10% over the published weight of 22.1oz.  Mine came in at 24.4oz.  I know it’s only 2.3oz and the design and execution are superb, but that is quite a bit when the others where so close.

30f here, in regular size with 900fp comes out to 547g on my scales, which exactly the weight KG gives.

Have you checked the size, maybe there was a mix up and they sent you larger size?

Thanks for the info.  I checked the size and my scale and all is well.  Moreover, it doesn’t appear to be overfilled but that may be the only explanation.  Perhaps I will just order another one to see for myself.  I contacted Katabatic over the weekend but haven’t heard back.

Really like the design and the Flex reg width is a nicer dimension for side sleeping with your backside hanging out a bit than the reg width Elite bags.

I had the same happen with a Flex 40,  6′, regular width, 900 FP.  It came in at 18.5 oz vs. 16.7 oz spec.  I haven’t contacted Katabatic about it however; I’d be interested to hear what they say about yours.

Still love the quilt though!

My Flex 30 (long/wide) came in .08 under spec. I thought I had read that the owner inspects every piece of product before it leaves the shop? Maybe weight isn’t one of the inspection points?

That’s odd.
My flex 30 Long Wide is 24.6 oz but that’s with the stuff bag and straps. Without them it’s pretty darn close to the 23.8oz published weight (going by memory it was 24.15 or something like that).

John,

I purchased a flex 22 6ft regular 900 back in August 2016 and also have a weight of about 24 oz.It is my first quilt and am absolutely loving it.Aaron got it out to me on time and was very helpful.I also am a side sleeper and it works well for me.Really didn’t worry about the 2 oz too much as I love the quilt.

It’s odd that’s for sure.

At my calculations it’s 65g over the spec’d weight, that’s around 6 x tablespoons of water.

Is it possible it got wet during transit?

65g of water spread out over a quilt probably wouldn’t even feel too damp to the touch.

I’d be tempted to stick it in the airing cupboard for a day then weight it again.

I know that after a few days being out in the rain all my kit is noticeably heavier, rucksack, tent (especially the inner), my clothes and quilt all absorb and hold onto a fair bit of moisture.

Thanks to all who have posted.  I am trying to decide between going with the wide version and just wanted to manage expectations as they relate to weight.  I think I will just go ahead and order it and then I can directly compare weight and size and send one of them back.

John, what’s your size? I’m 6’1/2″, 185lbs with a 44 inch chest and a muscular build. The I’m sure I’d have been fine with regular width in the Flex but went with the wide for more flexibility (cover the dog or my kids if they are too cold). If I only had one I’d probably be best with the flex in regular width but I also have a EE Revelation in regular (which is about 2″ greater around than the flex) and it’s fine. I’m a side sleeper.

I am 5’9″ 170lbs with a shoulder girth of 51-52″.  I have had four other Elite bags and my current go to bag is a wide Chisos.  Size wise I am OK but my sleeping style takes up a bit more room as a side sleeper in a semi fetal position with my hands between my knees.  On a wide pad the reg width Flex seems like it would be fine but I have had thoughts of using it as an overbag as well.
