I placed a response to an existing thread today and it took 2 hours for it to show up on that thread. Is there a gnome in a box who has to approve every thread entry ? I don’t recall it taking that long before.

Art,
Did you log out after posting?
Or check on your post after closing your browser, then browsing again but not logging in?
I’ve seen as much as a 4 hour lag between logged in and not logged in.
Something IS wacked.
[Edit: I did start BUG REPORT a couple of days ago, but you can tell what kind of response that got.]
I’m just here for the awesome thread title…
Greg – yes ! exactly.
so I logged back in and my entry was there.
then I logged back out and it was gone again.
also the time “freshness” of an entry appears different when logged in v.s. when logged out.
Almost like they are taking a snapshot every 50 posts and serving *that* instead of the current content to people and robots that don’t log in.
I cannot help but to watch this all unfold. I would not believe this all going on if I was not here to see it.
+1 on a great title
Bump.
Just trying to get BPL to acknowledge this phenomenon …
Mia?
Maybe robots and gearswap bots get a static cache that updates everytime there are 10 non-gearswap posts in a row, or 500 total posts, which ever comes first.
First of all, there are many caches in the internet between you and BPL, and those caches do NOT always get refreshed immediately. BPL has no control over that.
Second, the Forum SW BPL is currently using is not optimal, and Ryan is looking at upgrading it fairly soon. Be aware that the replacement Forum SW could cost BPl $1,000/month – I think they provide the Forum SW and the Forum servers for that. So it is not a change you make lightly.
Cheers
