i’ve had mine for one year and I’ve never been able to successfully use it. I understand that I’m not doing something right but the manual nor any of the YouTube guides are any help. My problem is trying to make any of the quick text messages available on my device. The only thing that shows up on the pre-sets messages are the three presets messages, none of which what apply. Additionally whenever I select a recipient I’m not able to move from the recipient to inserting a message or sending a message. that is that is no button available, a bridge to nowhere.

Why not try contacting Garmin directly or shooting them an email?  I have the original DeLorme Explorer but don’t use the preset messages.  Good luck.

John,

Just checking if you added your contacted on your computer and then sync them to your inReach with the cord?  You cannot move contacts from your phone to the app they need to be done prior to your trip….just brain storming here.

Pam and Jenny, thank you for your kind help and encouragement. I finally figured it out, actually was able to make the thing work purely by accident. The manual is crap and the use is far from intuitive. Thanks for your grace and kindness trying to help an old guy out.

Your welcome John!  It took me a while to figure things out…super frustrating I know.  Once you work it out, it’s quite wonderful.

Good luck!

Frustrating? Really?

I can understand that it might be a steep learning curve for someone unfamiliar with configuring these devices but the Inreach set up is really quite straightforward.

I’m adding this so others unfamiliar with the Inreach are not turned off by one thread on BPL. I’ve owned and used an Inreach device for more than three years now. It does have it’s quirks but it’s quite usable.

Jeez, make a guy feel welcome to ask question here.

Glad you figured it out John.

Yeah, after you configure the messages on your InReach account on line, you have to sync the device to download them to it.  Was that the problem?
