I haven’t seen this discussed before. I went out this weekend in my N Georgia haunts and I think it got down below zero. My Garmin inreach would turn on then immediately go off. It did work when warmed up, though. Upon returning home, I researched this and I believe Garmin says that below 4F the inreach will not work and should be warmed up in a pocket. Just an FYI

lithium batteries don’t work in the cold. Same with phone.
Toe warmers with adhesive. Stick one or two onto the device, and it will work at lower temps. With a major warning that you will overheat it if the toe warmer is left on and the device put into a pocket.
There are probably countless ways to insulate it as well, without blocking any signals.
put it in your pocket
Almost all electronics with batteries do poorly in the cold, and from my experience, the smaller the battery, the sooner they start acting up. Example-my Apple Watch starts glitching near 30F, NB10000 doesn’t like anything near the 20’s, same with my iPhone.
Keep them on your person, inside jacket pocket while hiking, in sleeping bag/quilt while sleeping.
