Combustion byproducts can be nasty, as in carcinogenic and toxic. Some care needed.

Me, I would not want to be relying on a filter to remove the nasties – I would prefer to skip the whole idea and start somewhere else.

+1 on a flue to exhaust the gases.

One should always go for “engineering controls” before personal protective equipment (PPE).  It’s legally required in the work place.  So don’t consider activated carbon (I use a lot of it) until you’ve reduced the toxic exposure more directly.  That also saves weight.

Nm, there seems to be rather conflicting information about the byproducts created.
