Combustion byproducts can be nasty, as in carcinogenic and toxic. Some care needed.
Me, I would not want to be relying on a filter to remove the nasties – I would prefer to skip the whole idea and start somewhere else.

+1 on a flue to exhaust the gases.
One should always go for “engineering controls” before personal protective equipment (PPE). Â It’s legally required in the work place. Â So don’t consider activated carbon (I use a lot of it) until you’ve reduced the toxic exposure more directly. Â That also saves weight.
Nm, there seems to be rather conflicting information about the byproducts created.
