Just curious if anyone uses their multi-day backpack for day hikes? I have the Hyperlite 55L Windrider, a very lightweight pack. The REI 18L Flash is a bit too small.

I use my Southwest 2400 as a daypack, especially in winter.
I frequently day hike in areas where overnight camping is both prohibited and an ongoing problem. Wearing my 40 liter Windrider would definitely draw unwanted attention.
Plus it’s overkill for loads of 10 pounds or less. I often unclip the hip belt on longer backpacking trips when my total pack weight drops below 20 pounds or so. On a day hike, that belt could be a major annoyance, even if clipped behind me.
My day pack at roughly 30 liters (made by a company that’s gone), is more comfortable and less fussy for day hikes than the Windrider.
