    Preparedness on the hiking trails, never know when this might be necessary. I think there was a place out west that early pioneers had to do this….. Donner Pass I think was the name. ;-)

    Locale: Colorado

    Alfred E. Packard, Lake City, Colorado, 1874. Five men went “missing” from a winter camp. Alfred alone survived. He was convicted and hung.

    Trivia Note 1: The Alferd Packard Restaurant & Grill on the CU Boulder campus is named in his honor.

    Trivia Note 2: Alfred was Republican, the others were Democrats. It was reported that reducing the number of voting Democrats was the more serious aspect of the crime.
