Does anyone have experience pitching up the Zpacks Pivot Solo on uneven ground? If so, how finicky is it?
It’s time to retire my 2015 Duplex — the DCF fabric is starting to fail at the corners and in all the spots with stick-on patches.
I was initially leaning toward a Durston X-Mid Pro 1, but after spending some time with one (five days helping a friend pitch it and another four days borrowing it), I decided it’s not the tent for me. One thing I’ve always loved about the Duplex is how easy and forgiving it is to pitch. I found the X-Mid to be finicky to pitch; it required me to use my brain (hard after a long day on the trail) to figure out what adjustments were needed for a taut pitch. The short guy lines were also a problematic when I need to hunt for spots where the tent stakes would penetrate the ground, or when I had to use rock anchors.
For those who’ve used the Pivot Solo: is pitching it similarly finicky? If so, I might just replace my old Duplex with a Duplex light. [Note: I’d be using it for one person, not two].
