HMG 4400 vs Seek Outside 4800 actual volume

I have the 6400 but it’s for longer trips.

I have not used the 4800 but I do think it will be a noticable improvement on the HMG because it will be wider at the bottom. This will help you keep the center of gravity lower and make packing and unpacking simpler.

I’d order a 4800 and pack it up. If it’s not big enough you can probably return the bag and swap it for a 6400.

I have the Divide, can’t make a direct comparo to the HMG, but it’s roomy.  The side pockets are huge, the rear (front-I have a hard time calling it the front :)) as well.

Definitely spring for the hip belt pockets (not sure why they just don’t include with the belt like my Flight?).

There is also the option of using a Talon for trips that you need additional volume.

Assuming you have a reasonably light kit, I think you’d be well suited with a SO 4800 for week long packrafting trips. My brother ran his Unaweep 4800 for a 8 day packrafting trip earlier this summer and it worked well. As Mike mentioned, the side pockets are huge and you’ll be able to use the Talon for extra room. And the Talon make a great compression panel for paddles/PFD/etc. I’m planning on ordering a custom 4800 for myself for this exact use
