I’ve been using Merrell All Out Blaze for all my hikes (excluding winter) for many years. The ventilation works perfectly for quick drying after stream crossings, while the mesh upper keeps most debris out, in contrast to closed toed sandals. Now they’ve discontinued the model, and I can’t find a suitable replacement. Can someone advise?

I find hiking shoes to be a very personal choice but I’ve been pretty happy with Saucony Peregrine Trails for 3 season use. I previously wore Merrell Moab ventilators but grew tired of the spotty stitching and adhesive failures. The Peregrines are reasonably robust for their weight and the mesh drains well after stream crossings or use in rain. And while they don’t have Vibram soles I still find the traction to be very good. Unfortunately the price point is a lot higher than the Merrell’s but I usually can catch them on sale.

You might try find a pair on eBay… sometimes slightly used at less than 1/2 the original price…

Does anyone have any comments regarding hiking the AT in trail runners? (I’m already a trail runner.) I’m thinking Altra Superiors or Altra Lone Peak Hikers. My needs include wide fit and exceptional ventilation.

I wouldn’t do the AT in anything but trail runners.    Fit is very personal- I’ve been using La Sportiva Ultra Raptors for years but I have a narrow foot.
