Hikes/Trips around Monterrey (MX)

As a totally last minute decision, I’m going to be going down to Monterrey, Mexico tomorrow for 3-4 days to meet up with my brother. It would be really cool to do some hikes there, either day trips or longer.

I have very little time to plan anything, so I’m reaching out to anyone who has some good suggestions. Just glancing around the web, I see the obvious Cerro de la Silla right outside town, then also La Huasteca in the neighbouring national park. A bit further afield, El Potrero Chico, of rock climbing fame, looks quite spectacular (on google images at least!), but not sure there are trails for the casual hiker and how easy it is to get there.

Anybody have recommendations and some info on logistics? Is it worth bringing camping gear or should I just take a light pack?

Also, any recommendation what area to stay in (at least for the dirst night), to have hikes easily accessible?

Thanks a lot!

Greg
