Just joined up and wanted to say “Hi!”.

I’m an English guy who has camped since forever on a motorbike but really got into hiking+wild camping with my lad (25) in the last few years. My maturing years and love of Belgium beer have naturally driven me to light gear and so its lucky to find so much available now and the forum here to chat about it.

We do a fair bit of wild camping, mostly in England’s Lake District. Typically being out for a couple of nights at a time and all year round. We have discussed longer trips and going further afield, nothing firmed up yet though.

Refining the kit is a never-ending process. Just today I’ve switched to BeFree from Sawyer ready for the next trip at Easter. I’ve got a new sack on order (https://www.atompacks.co.uk/product-page/the-prospector) which is over a kg (2.2lb) lighter than my current Berghaus, so that will be fun to try out next time too.

Always good to hear from anyone from the scepter’d isle (and everywhere else too ofc) to discuss gear and wild camping spots.

Welcome Richard. I’ve been following the English snow chatter on trek-lite.com.

I also learned of the Atom packs on the UK site. They look very nice and of course you guys don’t have to deal with the import duties when purchasing the Atom. I believe the packs are made in the Lake District.

Thanks, Monte.

Yup, the heavy snow has been a bit of surprise this week, I thought global-warming had finished it off for us. I work in a school and it’s closed for a snow day – Yay!

The atom packs are indeed made in the Lakes. I’ll  post here on how I get on with mine when I’ve had a chance to use it in anger.

Hi Richard, welcome to the forums. Always nice to have folk from across the pond on here.

“FROM SNOWY OLD ENGLAND”

I always thought Old England was dying. At least that’s what The Waterboys told me…
