I met Craig Wisner here on BPL over 15 years ago. We have become friends and hiking partners on several trips.
Craig’s house burned to the ground. Craig and his family escaped with what they could carry out in two backpacks. They lost everything. Worse, his mother in-law, who lives close by lost the home she has lived in since 1988 to the fire. Craig and his wonderful wife Lusi are full-time caregivers to her mother.
Craig, a high school teacher, who has two kids in college, has a future full of challenges. It will be difficult. Knowing Craig, he and his family will get past this. It won’t be easy. We can help.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe page.
Help the Wisners Rebuild after the Eaton Fire
Thanks, in advance,
— Nick

Jan 10, 2025 at 12:50 pm #3826223Thank you Nick – I knew that there would be people so devastatingly affected that I “know” from this and another forum on which I participate, but without posts like yours I’m not sure how I would find out. So awful…I’m glad everyone is safe, but cannot imagine losing everything like that.
I love that just below my reply as I type is this: “Our core community value is generosity” – This is a time to give generously.
Jan 10, 2025 at 6:28 pm #3826237Craig has helped countless students through tough times. Countless.
Time to step up and let your friends know.
Jan 10, 2025 at 7:40 pm #3826240Thank you so much for posting link so we can help. I knew people in NC that were hit hard. My thoughts and prayers go out to Craig and his loved ones.
Jan 11, 2025 at 4:21 pm #3826275I texted Craig the other day to see if he was safe and sound. He responded about 20 minutes later that he just found out his home had burned down. That was probably the toughest text I’ve had to respond to.
About as a nice guy (and wife) you’d ever have the pleasure to meet. Here’s hoping Craig and his family can get back on their feet soon!
Jan 11, 2025 at 4:35 pm #3826276Thanks for the link, Nick. It enabled me to be one of 400+ (now 500+ people) who kicked in to support Craig and his family and from the posts at GoFundMe, Craig is clearly as thoughtful, generous and giving in his role as a high-school teacher as he has been here within the BPL community. One of the most excellent mugs he designed, threw, and fired as gifts to everyone on the (unofficial) BPL GCNP R2R2R run-trot-hike-slog a dozen years ago still holds pride-of-place in our cupboard (among way too many NPR mugs) as a reminder of a great trip and because it’s ideal for a large cup of tea or nice serving of ice cream.

Jan 13, 2025 at 11:00 am #3826390Thanks for posting the link, Nick. Craig is one of the good guys. There are almost 1,000 others felt the same way.
Jan 13, 2025 at 5:32 pm #3826436Newcomers here may not know Craig, as he’s been less active recently. “One of the good guys” indeed. He’s given time and energy and guidance to kids whose lives were about to go sideways, or worse. A lot of kids. He’s that rare person who’s able to give out and connect–to teens! Yikes!!!
His life has been about connection and helping. He’s a high school teacher, so no, he’s not rich by any means. But his impact on the lives of teens and others has been immense.
Jan 14, 2025 at 9:16 am #3826510This is an absolute tragedy for so many. In such a densely populated area, trying to find housing right now is a nightmare. The rental market is flooded with thousands of extra people searching for housing. The price gouging has started. Thirty miles away from the impacted areas, there were 10 applicants for a single rental that just came on the market this weekend. It’s going to be a long road to recovery.
Jan 15, 2025 at 10:48 am #3826574Thank you for posting this. Financially I am a bit strapped but will see what we can do from our household. Craig is one of the good guys. Horrible news
