Due to some family obligations I won’t be able to get out in late July and August this year, which is typically my prime time for backpacking. I’ve blocked out a week in mid July but I’m having a hard time figuring out what might be melted out in time. I’m in OR and ideally would be going somewhere in CA, OR, or WA, although ID is within range too. I’d be looking to get about 60 – 100 miles and usually like to include some amount of off trail exploration. Typically I’d look to the Sierra or Trinity Alps for something earlier season but this doesn’t look to be the year for that. If anyone has good educated guesses as to how snowmelt might advance in different places over the next 2 – 3 weeks, I’d love your input! At the moment most places still appear to have pretty solid snow cover – I know that’ll change in the coming weeks but not sure by how much. Thanks!
