I know the winter seems to be coming to an end, but I am a pretty frugal guy and I’ve noticed winter clearance sales are starting to pop up. I’m thinking about buying a new coat.
I’ve got a hooded Nanopuff that I wear in the 30’s and 40’s and have the Torrentshell that I can wear over it during inclement weather. I’ve also got their minimalist wader’s jacket with a more relaxed fit that pairs nicely with any of several nice fleeces I can pick from. I have lots of options for the “shoulder seasons” covered.
For the colder winter days, I’ve got a North Face synthetic puffy jacket from a long ago trashed 3-in-1 coat, and a milsurp goretex outercoat from the ECWCS garments that stops wind and precipitation dead.
Anyway, here are my requests:
First, sell me on a strictly insulative layer so that I can retire my north face puffy. I am not really married to synthetic verses down. This will be mainly a “wear around town” item but could also see use snow shovelling, or a day trip skiing, or if I am trying to sneak in a late/early backpacking trip and want some warmth beyond my nanopuff.
Second, the more or less same request, but for a convertable insulation and outer shell “system” type jacket, or for a jacket with the shell built in. That way I don’t have to pick and choose an outer shell that will be compatible with whatever puffy jacket I buy.
Also, as I mentioned in my intro, I like to bargain hunt and any deals might want to learn about are appreciated!
