I am from NY. I will be in North Carolina this spring/early summer. Wendell, North Carolina. I am looking for some spots i can escape to for a night in that area. Not a clue about NC at all so I figured I would start here. Please help!! Thanks..

Well, it’s 4.5 drive west from there, but the Linville Gorge Wilderness is a beautiful area.
Yes..apparently I will have to drive that distance West for any good backpacking and over night trips. White water kayaking as well. I was hoping for something closer but the closest I found is about 2.5 hour drive.. And it seems a little blah blah.
