Im having a heck of a time finding a safety orange wind shirt. Everything i keep pulling up is either lined or meant for roadwork’s. Does any one know of a decent low cost light weight wind shirt out there? XL US sizing, full zip or a pullover doesn’t matter. A hood would be my only request. I have read in the passed of some cheap Houdini knock offs on flea bay but haven’t seen anything in safety orange.

Thanks Andy, Im wondering if that orange would be bright enough during hunting season. Really the only reason I need it is for day hikes and mountain biking in the National Forest during hunting season. Some of the oranges that i have found are more of a pumpkin and I feel like they blend in to much with the fall foliage.

“how about a hat and a mesh vest.”

I have a hunters vest ,but its too hot when biking. I have worn my Houdini and loved it for the cooler weather but its a greenish tan and blends in to well. A hat os off the table for biking (helmet).

Have you looked at the Brooks LSD shirt?

REI has a full zip, without a hood, in a pretty screaming yellow right now:

I have a much older version of the brooks LSD (bought it on clearance in ’08 or so), and it’s a fairly typical wind shirt: lightweight, okay breathability, etc. Probably akin to the newer, less breathable Houdini.

You can get helmets in orange and “don’t hit me yellow” and there are all kinds of cycling wind jackets in orange and other bright colors. The Houdini is available in orange as well https://www.rei.com/product/893303/patagonia-houdini-zip-front-jacket-mens?

I would light the bike up like a Christmas tree

When I hike in the fall I just use one of those plastic, tie-on disposable things.  I wrap/tie it around my pack.  Less than an ounce and about 50 cents, IIRC, and it lasts quite a few trips if you don’t tear it up on brush.

I hope its good enough not to get shot.
With some hunters, it just attracts their attention as something to aim at.

Read The Hunting Song by Tom Lehrer.

Cheers

I got the orange Houdini for purposes of being visible to hunters.  I’ll probably grab an orange hat at some point because I can’t see me keeping the hood up for a whole day.  Mostly, people around here seem to hunt deer in groups so I think they should be reasonably alert to the ORANGE = PEOPLE thing.

I’m still not going out in the woods the first week of deer season.

Hey JR, not to late for the OP!!! I just received the one from Backcountry.com and it’s a really dark orange, so it’s going back. I’m now going to try the Massdrop one. thanks for the heads up on that one.

Glad to help. Just take note of the intended ship date to make sure it won’t be getting to you too late.

Yup! I saw the ship date after I ordered, but should get it before rifle season. Thanks for looking out for me 🙂
