Help find a new Headlamp

I’m a huge fan of the Fenix HM50R headlamp. Rugged, IP68 waterproof rating, 2.2 oz. not including batteries. I’ve been using it for a few years now, haven’t seen the need to look for anything else.

I searched for light headlamps with removable Li-Ion batts, so they could be carried on long hikes with a spare battery. By far the lightest and longest lasting I found were the Petzl Hybrids, with a removable Core battery, and 300 lumen max illumination. Wanting something simple, I chose the Tikka Hybrid, but Petzl offers a variety of additional features on its other Hybrid models.

300 lumens is more than I need, so I set it at medium, and have all the light I need to walk at night. I’ve had it for over two years now, and no problems. At least three hours of night walking until even a slight drop in illumination is noticeable. This year bought a second one + batts, and carry it in a pocket so that if the original ever fails, the back-up can be put on in a few seconds. We occasionally get some fast drivers on our town roads, and don’t want to be without light for more than a second or two. Especially when I’m walking two Shetland Sheep Dogs, one of whom is a large puppy that can be rambunctious.

The only time it ran out, I’d used a Trac phone charger by mistake to recharge. Won’t do that again. Use an ONN plug-in wall charger from Walmart, but anything OK for an I-Phone has worked. It also works with 3 AAA cells, but use only the Core batt as it lasts longer and is rechargeable. This light has solved all my prior problems, and hope this month to do an OP about it and an accessory. One niggle – the battery did not snap solidly into the new light as securely as it did with the old light; but when the battery compartment is snapped closed, the new one holds the battery securely.

Please note that I have no connection with Petzl whatsoever, except for buying a couple of their lights with some accessories.

Zebralight H52 if you want to use 14500/AA size, or H600 if you want to use 18650 batteries.  The H52 is previous model, but still being sold some places.  Afford the flood reflector because it doesn’t have enough throw for way finding.  Other options https://verber.com/lights/

If you actually want to find a headlamp, take walks along bike paths or well-traveled hiking trails. That’s how I’ve found all the lights I have.
