<div>Hello to all fellow Backpackers,</div>
<div>I would like to take this time on this post to clear up a few issues about my company Wolf MTN Gear being a scam. Allow  me to frist say that im very sorry for how things happen and were handled during the time that my mother passed away. Yes I admit their was lack of communication, not getting orders out in a timely manner. When my mother passed away i fell way behind and became overwhelmed buy the number of orders that was coming in and I did have the right things in place to handle to the work load. Their were many mistakes that i have made since the time that i started the company and im very sorry for them. Since that time I have either issued a refund to customers that wanted one, or sent them their product for free just as our way of saying that we are deeply sorry and that I wanted to make things right and in a few cases they received their refund and I still sent them their product for free. It was never my intentions for anyone to feel like they are being scammed, taken adavantage of and I’m very sorry if anyone feels that way.</div>
<div></div>
<div>If their is anyone that reads this and feels like we didnt come through for you  or feels taken advantage of then please reach out to me through email at wolfmtngear@gmail.com <wbr />because I want to make things right and to change how you view Wolf MTN Gear..</div>
<div></div>
<div>Things we have done since then to avoild those mistakes again.</div>
<div>1 Put things in place to help with communication</div>
<div>2 Finished our website</div>
<div>3 Given a more realistic time frame to receive orders</div>
<div></div>
<div> I would love the chance to earn your trust and business, as I love making backingpack gear. You can look us up on Facebook to see some of our new reviews from customers within the last couple of weeks.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Again Im deeply sorry for how things was handled during this rough time in my life.</div>
<div></div>
<div>Thank you,</div>

I’m not a customer and I’m not justifying what happened but I will say this. I’m 32 and I lost my 58yo mother two weeks ago. Everything in my world took a back burner. I had a couple of local people waiting for gear I was making them and they were not on my mind in the slightest. I know people have complained about the lack of communication from Wolf but when my mother passed, I didn’t give a crap about how anyone else felt, including the people waiting for gear. All I cared about was getting myself and my family through it. I hope people can empathize and give this vendor a chance to redeem themselves.

Everyone who has never screwed up raise their hand.  Uh huh.

I believe that people deserve a chance to make good on an honest mistake.  The measure of a man (or a company) is not whether or not they have made mistakes, but what actions are taken to atone for them, and to insure that the same mistake is not repeated.

I suspect Shane will receive that chance.  I hope he does well, and that this is the last time people feel the need to say bad things about his business.  As a former president once said…

There’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.

Well done. Yes things happen then we make mistakes on top of it and then some try their best to make it good. Wishing you well !

15 Weeks!  Good intentions only go so far, I never got a quilt or a refund from WMG. In his message above he leads you to believe he has resolved all customer issues with refunds, their order, and or free gear.  I know two individuals other than myself who have not received their orders or refunds on purchases dating back to late August.  He was very unhappy about customers discussing their experiences with each other and told me I was “bad mouthing” him on this thread.  Additionally he deletes comments on his facebook post to make sure it looks like everything is great.

The one thing I did get was a lot of promises and excuses.  This was the worse experience I have ever had with an order.  I order a quilt Aug 14.  I waited 14 weeks and filed a claim with Paypal, one week later (15 weeks) Paypal gave me my money back.  I was provided 2 tracking numbers that never worked.  I believe these were delay attempts to give him more time.

Aug 14 – Order placed.  Original scheduled ship date Aug 21

Aug 16 – Received email saying quilt was done minus WMG Tags

Aug 21 – Ship date changed to Aug 23

Sept 6 – Ship date changed to Sept 8

Oct 14 – Says it shipped but forgot to provide tracking info

Oct 17 – Provided a tracking number.

This tracking number never showed it shipped

Oct 24 – I posted a review off 1 star on Facebook

Oct 24 – I a rude sarcastic email thanking me for hurting his business

Oct 24 – A similar rude and sarcastic message was received via Facebook Messanger.

Approximately this time – he called to ask me why I was commenting on backpackinglight.com about my experiences. “Bad mouthing” him

Oct 24 – Via Facebook Messenger he told me “yes it is complete”

Oct 25 – He asked me to call him, I did and we discussed multiple things and offered to fill it with down to “make thing right”.  To me this means it’s not complete.

Oct 30 – Told it will ship Nov 1

Nov 3 – Provided me with a tracking number

This tracking number never showed it shipped

Nov 6 – We talked on the phone and he said he had cut the body for a replacement in the anticipation of UPS not locating the shipment

Nov 9 – Told me he had no new info from UPS

Nov 10 – I submitted an issue to paypal and requested he provided a date for shipping which must occur no later than Nov 17

Nov 14 – No response from WMG, so I escalated the it to a claim

Nov 24 – Paypal gave WMG 10 days to respond, they never did and my money was refunded.

^^^ Wow!

I like to think I’m a forgiving type…but if that were my experience I can’t honestly say I would have re-acted any differently.

I personally know 2 other people who placed orders in August, who have never received their orders.  I know several others who had to go through PayPal/credit card to get refunds.  I myself am taking legal action because of a significant amount of money he owes me.

I know people are trying to give him a chance, but ask yourself this…If he is honest, and just overwhelmed with orders….

  1. Why did he take his website down?
  2. Why has he not fulfilled the outstanding orders from August.
  3. Why did he personally tell me in June, that his mother died, (before his store even launched) and then use this as an excuse in October?
  4. Why did he give 2 fake addresses on his FB page?  He now has no address listed.  Why would he remove his address from both Fb and his website?
  5. Why does he have a 2.6 (out of 5 star rating) on FB?  Go to his FB page, and wade through the numerous 1 star ratings to see all the complaints
  6. Why does he give people fake tracking numbers, and then later use the excuse that he is waiting on materials.  If he gives you a tracking number, then it should have already shipped.
  7. Why does he have numerous complaints on both FB and in several hiking groups, all giving the exact same story, that he strings them along for months?
  8. Why is it that any time anyone writes anything negative about him, he reports them, even trying to get people banned from FB?

Why did he take his website down? The website wasnt taken down it was down for maintenance as of 12/11/2017 it went back active. http://www.wolfmtngear.com
Why has he not fulfilled the outstanding orders from August. All customers from that frame period have been taken care of except for 2 and Im working to fix the issue with them. We are in the business to make people HAPPY no matter the cost because value and respect each and every customer.
Why did he personally tell me in June, that his mother died, (before his store even launched) and then use this as an excuse in October? I didnt tell you anything in June about my mother passing away what i said was that she isnt doing good
Why did he give 2 fake addresses on his FB page? He now has no address listed. Why would he remove his address from both Fb and his website? Because of the threats and to protect my Family
Why does he have a 2.6 (out of 5 star rating) on FB? Go to his FB page, and wade through the numerous 1 star ratings to see all the complaints. Their are quite of few people that post one star that has never bought anything from us. Please look at the 5 star ratings from recent orders.
Why does he give people fake tracking numbers, and then later use the excuse that he is waiting on materials. If he gives you a tracking number, then it should have already shipped. Our products are being shipped in a timely manner.
Why does he have numerous complaints on both FB and in several hiking groups, all giving the exact same story, that he strings them along for months? We have made mistakes but we have learned from them and have put a lot of things in place to help prevent things like that from happening in the future. Once again we are very sorry to all of our customers that this has affected.
Why is it that any time anyone writes anything negative about him, he reports them, even trying to get people banned from FB? I have not tried to get anyone banned from Facebook or reported anything.
All we want to do is just get past the mistakes that we have made, learn from them to make things better, to rebuild our trust and respect from people and to continue to make quality gear at a affordable price. Thank you

“Why does he give people fake tracking numbers, and then later use the excuse that he is waiting on materials. If he gives you a tracking number, then it should have already shipped. ”

“Our products are being shipped in a timely manner.”

This  isn’t really the answer to that claim.

Shannon/WolfMTN, I am one of those people you owe money to from an August order. You did NOT fulfill your promise to refund my money. Now you’ve stopped responding to my emails, PMs or comments on your Facebook page. What’s your excuse for this? I’ve heard many excuses from you, including that there is a 30-day waiting period for any refunds (not a 30-day window for a customer to MAKE a return…. 30 days to GET their their money.)  I’m WELL over that time-frame.

And now I am telling my story to anyone who wants to know if your company is one to do business with.  NO, STAY AWAY. Shannon Sanborn/Wolf MTN owes me my money for a custom UQ that he did not deliver on. He originally quoted me a week turn-around, and finally got to sending the WRONG-SIZED quilt at the end of OCTOBER. I sent it back and requested a refund. It’s now DECEMBER and he can’t be bothered to respond, let alone give me my money.

I have filed a complaint with the State Attorneys General for Pennsylvania for fraudulent business practices. oh yeah, did I mention that he operates out of PA and not MD? It was on his business shipping label, so he can’t accuse me of doxxing him (as he’s hinted at).

Merry Christmas. Enjoy your bounty at the expense of others’ hard-earned money.

If anyone wants to really see how Shannon / Shane Sanborn and Wolf Mtn Gear conducts business, I suggest you do an internet search.  There are many complaints, and his answers to the questions are pathetic.

Shannon / Shane – You might want to look into the law.  You are required to fulfill orders within a certain time frame, and you can’t use the excuse of vendors being late with supplies.  It doesn’t matter.  If you take electronic payment and/or conduct online sales, you are required to comply with the law.  All credit card companies also require you to post your legal business address on your website.   If you don’t, you are in violation of your service agreement.  The very nature of this law is to protect consumers from fraudulent online retailers, who try to make it impossible for them to take legal action by not providing an address.

Diana R – I would suggest you contact the Federal Trade Commission here: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Details#crnt

He is not allowed to hold your refund for 30 days.  He is also bound by a  Warranty of Merchantibility.   If he sent you something that was not what you ordered or wass advertised, he is legally obligated to give you a refund in a timely manner.

I was thinking about picking up a quilt from WMG.  I did some research and needless to say won’t be making that purchase.   I understand bad circumstances and the need to reorganize and reset.  This https://logopond.com/wiking/showcase/detail/224247 did it for me.  My wife is a graphic designer.   Just too much.

In case anyone doesn’t get a chance to read through the comments on the link Doug posted, it looks like somebody designed a logo for him back in 2014 – a superb logo, by the way, with a cryptic wolf – and then didn’t get paid for it, leading to a copyright dispute.

Has anyone here bought my Reflective Glowire from Wolf Mountain Gear? If so, what did it look like? The reason I ask is because I have never sold them an inch of my cord before, but it was listed for sale on their website as of tonight. I just called Shane and talked to him for quite a few minutes. He said that he was buying my cord from Dutchware.  So then, I contacted Dutch and he said that Shane has only bought about 200′ of my cord from him.   So I want to confirm that what was advertised and sold as my cord was actually my cord. I told Shane I was going to post this question on here and he said that it was ok. He also said that if there was anything sold that wasn’t my cord he would buy the cord from me and send it to any customers that got the wrong stuff.  So if anyone ordered Reflective Glowire from Wolf Mountain Gear (Shane Sanborn) and it wasn’t actually my reflective cord, please let me know. I am not looking to add to the drama, I am just looking to protect the quality and name of my products.

Thanks, Lawson

When I spoke to Lawson he said that he wasnt doing wholesale any longer and I told him that I would remove it from our website. We spoke for about 30 minutes. He knows that i removed it because he was on the phone with me when i did

This is nothing new he was wanting to make sure that it was indeed his material and that some other guy lined wasnt being labeled as his products thats what he was doing nothing more or nothing less!

PostedDec 14, 2017 at 4:43 pm

Hi Shane, did you ever sell reflective cord branded as Lawson’s that wasn’t actually Lawson’s?

Lawson said “He also said that if there was anything sold that wasn’t my cord he would buy the cord from me and send it to any customers that got the wrong stuff.”

Why would you make this concession otherwise?

How many distinct/different kinds of cordage have you sold via your website or in other venues?

Was there a chance of a mix up?

Just seeking some clarity here.

Just curious here…  This seems pretty cut and dry.  If Dutch is a reputable dealer of the line, then the 200′ that was bought is probably good and people probably received good cord.  Correct?

Shane –  you could clear things up pretty easy here.  As a store owner why did you not contact Lawson to begin with if you wanted to sell his product?  Again, just curious.   Seems like that is the way to get the cheapest prices.  Did you only sell from that 200′ batch of cord that you bought from Dutchware.  If so, then this is really a non-issue.   Looking from the outside there may be conditions I don’t know about.   Just doesn’t seem that complicated.   If product is identified as not being Lawson’s, but being bought from you – then you replacing it doesn’t do anything.  That is a real issue.  Either Dutchware is selling counterfeit goods under the name of a reputable product, or you are.  There is not 3rd option here.  Re-selling a product you buy is not illegal; even if you don’t buy it wholesale through the manufacturer.  I do it all the time if I find great deals that others can’t find.

While Lawson might not be trying to add to anything here it is another piece that does not look good without explanation.   It just looks shady to someone like me. And I am the exact type of person you are trying to convince to buy product from you.  I have not bought any products from you, so my opinion is a bit of non-factor here…

I contacted Lawson March 27 2017 before i started Wolf Mtn Gear to get whole sale prices from him. As he stated to me last night he was just making sure that it was his cord and not another cord with his label on it. I showed him a receipt which i bought 600 ft from a thrid party vendor and he is good with everything. I also told him that since he isnt selling wholesale i will take it down because we look for products to save you the customer money. This morning we have reached out to Kelty about their guy line for our tarps because it seems to be of top quality and we have contact 2 other manufactures about designing a cord for us that we can use on our tarps, and other items. If you have any other questions please let me know and i will be happy to answer any questions. Have a Blessed Day! Thanks
