I took my 3 kids on an overnighter to Stone House camp along Lytle Creek in the Cucamonga Wilderness in Southern CA. The 3 of them slept in my Locus Gear Hapi Mid on a polycro ground sheet. I used the dual pole adapter so the interior would be completely open as opposed to having my trekking pole through the center. I was able to easily fit all 3 of them. It was a little tight and they are little people (11, 9, and 6) but if you needed to do it, you could fit 3 adults too. The Hapi has the zippered door on the short side and this design feature really shined because they didn’t have to climb over each other and wake their siblings when they went to the “bathroom” in the middle of the night.  I on the other hand was woken up about 4 times to help them navigate the terrain in the dark. ? I ended up going to Lowes and buying a 6′ x 8′ tarp for $7. Not too bad for 15oz without guy lines or stakes.

I had considered that before but if I were using 3 20in wide pads then that leaves only 5 inches of space on either side (total width is 70 inches. With the curvature I’d suspect that the walls would touch the edge of the sleeping bag, but I don’t actually have a Hapi. My guess is that with a taller height you’d be better able to fit three which is part of the reason that I have requested a custom Hapi made to ~145cm tall. I’d use it with my two kids and I think we could squeeze in to fit. Of course, three kids using 18 inch pads would seem to leave just enough room using a stock Hapi. Not many options of inflatable mattresses though.

They all had 20″ pads. Prolite, ridgecrest solite and kelty pda. Yes, only about 5″ on each side. You definitely couldn’t do this if using an innernet. The red bag on the right is a kids marmot bag and never ended up touching the shelter. Less loft and less slippery on the ridgecrest. My beloved 10 deg zpacks bag my 9 yo son was using definitely touched the walls because he was wiggly and slipping around. It was very dry so it ended up not being an issue. Shoulder season in the CA. There was not even any moisture under the ground sheet in the morning. In the future if I needed to do this I would make sure to lay their rain jackets over the bags.
