Just got it today. Pretty cool and works nicely.  One day I will get to use it .. Have to wait for next winter storm when I hit the mountains and decide to bring the windburner..

Hung it and tested it.. I like that I can also light the windburner With a Ferro rod very easily.. Just in case too windy for the ol bic lighter.. I dunno, just another something to add to my arsenal..

One day I will decide to use it .. that skillet too. I would prefer to use this set up when the weather warrants it. By no means is this light weight. I do like that it all packs together inside the .1L pot, (not that skillet) . I figure to use it in winter “storm” conditions..and I think I missed my calling last month when we camped on Hunter Mt in that crazy storm.. After the trip, when I was home, I thought to myself.. That would have been ideal conditions for that stove system..instead that night out there, no one cooked or even ate , other then the birthday cookie, due to the extreme winds and snow.

I don’t understand why you want to hang a stove. Why not just set it on the ground? Is there some advantage to hanging it?

  • No not really. The hang kit would come in handy to hang on rocky uneven grounds,  ledges or possibly in snowy, windy conditions in a vestibule that is well vented.

Hanging stoves seem to be popular in Alpine climbing/mountaineering.  Go watch the documentary “Meru” and you’ll see Konrad Anker Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk using one while camped out in a portaledge.

When cooking inside is necessary and it’s not possible to cook in a vestibule, a hanging stove would be handy.  Any contact with puffy items like sleeping bags or insulated jackets could instantly melt the fabric.  I did that once back in my noobie years when I tried to bring a small gas lantern into our four person car coming tent while we got ready to sleep.

Many of the Bibler style Alpine tents have no vestibule when set up in minimalist mode.
