The discontinued Solomid is only 4′ wide and is a true symmetrical Pyramid, so when I pitch it with only 1 trekking pole and offset it just a few inches forward, that only leaves me about 27″ behind the pole to fit an innernet. This net is 26″ wide but is 100″ long front and 94″ back, therefore it’s considerably longer than even the Solomid XL inner. That means the net isn’t close to my head when I lay down. Had to join 2 pieces of scrap 30D silnylon together to get enough floor length but that only adds a few grams with seam seal. Features a large L zip entry. Netting is RSBTR .67 noseeum. Total weight 9.7 oz and 49″ tall. Of course inner will work with all larger pyramids too. 72″ long air mat shown inside.

Innernet fits perfectly under the 4′ x 9′ Solomid using just 1 trekking pole. Leaves me a roomy 2′ wide vestibule running the entire length. No worries about rain entering and exiting because the inner sets in the back half of the mid. Shelter also has a small 36′ square footprint.

That looks really well made. Are you itching to take it out for its first trip?

Question- are the vertical corners of the floor stiffened? If yes, what did you use?

Thanks Megan, yes I will take it out on the trail as soon as the bugs return here in Indiana.

For the corner struts I used 3/16″ diameter bamboo sticks 4 1/2″ long each. I cut 70D silnylon strips measuring 1 1/2″ X 5″ and folded in half lengthwise and went over with warm iron to hold a crease. Next I folded the 70D strips around the cut corners of the floor fabric (90 degrees) with the sticks inside and pin. Then I remove sticks and sew. Afterwards I reinsert the sticks and sew horizontally on top and bottom to hold in sticks (should have 1/4″ excess silnylon top and bottom). The elastic is 3/8″ wide flat.

Thanks Monte, that detail is really helpful.

Ive been wanting to make some stiffened corners for a bathtub groundsheet…. trying to work out if I can be bothered sourcing carbon fibre rods, or just use something I can get more easily (even better, reuse something I already have! ). Ok, you have inspired me to to take the next step.

I wish I didn’t have to work- then I’d have more myog and walking time!

Cheers
