I’m working on a tarp mod and I ran out of grosgrain. I can order it from dutchware.com cheap enough (Dutch is so reasonable on shipping), but it would take 5 or six days to get here. I see Walmart has it.
Question: is grosgrain grosgrain, or do DIY suppliers sell something that’s stronger? Needless to say, tarp tieouts are something I don’t want to fail. Thanks
Although I prefer to support the cottage vendor’s like Dutch, I think the Wright’s brand of black grosgrain is fine in a pinch. 100% polyester of course, and it comes in several widths. Also, there is an Offray brand of grosgrain carried by the Wallmart near me. Offrey offers grosgrain in more colors and patterns. The Offrey brand has a slightly coarser feel to it, but I have used it also for binding edges, and it has held up well. Although the Wright’s grosgrain is more pliable, and seems to be of higher quality to me.
Of course these Walmart options are far weaker than the mil spec grosgrain, if that is what you were talking about. And if so, wait for the shipment of the good stuff, IMO.
I’d stick with nylon if strength is an issue. I’ve purchased some from fabric stores that can be torn by hand. Very weak.
