January 25-29th. This is why I love the Smokies. A 5-day loop from Smokemont, Chastain Creek, Enloe Creek, the AT, and back out due to more heavy snow. 6-10″ of snow with more on the way, and I saw a total of 2 people, Northbound thru hikers. Absolutely beatiful.
Gorgeous photos Russ! It’s actually nice to hear that some Nobos are getting an early start. My favorite hiking in GA and NC on the AT was always during the icy winter months.
Great photos. I love the white trees with blue skies. We got out there last January and had similar snow and ice. Days are short but can be really pretty if you get a break from the gray.
