About to pull the trigger on a new tent. The gossamer website says the new 2021 the one is 17.7 oz and the dcf the one is 15.3… am I crazy or is 2.4 oz really worth 250 dollars more? Is the stated weights correct for the non dcf model?

The One is not a huge shelter, and is very simple, feature-wise, so I would not think the difference in weight would be that big, the numbers seem reasonable. Also, the floor is Sil in both models(albeit 7D in the DCF One), so only the canopy is DCF. Most who are wanting DCF are going to get it for DCFs other properties or for the hype of the fabric, while a weight savings is an only added bonus. In my opinion, the cost is not worth it.

7d sil? Really? And no rainbow door?

If you want to spend that kind of money, then probably look elsewhere…

I am sure the GG tent is a well made product, but I’d likely invest in a Duplex before a DCF one. It will serve more situations with minimal added weight, for a similar price.

anyone have actual weight of the non dcf??? Also how is the one for taller people 6’2? Weight of the one vs duplex? Seems like the one packs a lot smaller then the duplex?

Not sure about the 1. But i can say the the duplex  does not pack that small. DCF in general does not pack small from all my experience with it. Personally,  for a shelter I prefer silpoly. It packs stupid small (if pack space is a concern) it is still very light weight and functions just as well as DCF, and you will be able to afford other necessary items because it is probably half the price. I think DCF is like the Cabbage Patch Kid Craze back in the 80s.. im kind of over it. Its too expensive,  does not save pack space and its not invincible! Last winter I had a brand new DCF tarp shred in a snow storm. Not just rip.. it shredded. Would a silpoly tarp have done the same? Probably.. but i could have gotten 2 or 3 more new ones for the price.

This probably does not help you and was off topic.. but if you concerned about pack space, money and very minimal weight penalty.. avoid the DCF. You can easily save a few ounces somewhere else and have the money to do it too!!!!

The industry saw a bunch of light weight fanatics and sold them on the DCF.. at a price!!

I have the xmid for a trip, but am wondering if the one non dcf is worth the weight savings. I don’t plan on needing a double walled for this trip

I think only you could answer if it is worth it. They both have their features which may be appealing to you(with their pros and cons), and they will likely pack down about the same, likely a slight nod to the GG, since it is single wall compared to the Xmid. To some, it is worth the extra weight and pack volume to carry a double wall shelter.

DCF is really expensive fabric. The One is a really nice tent. If you have ever seen one in person, it’s amazingly well-made. It pitches really tight and looks really spacious. I’ve only seen the non-DCF One. Gossamer Gear is a really good company. I don’t think you need the DCF version of the tent. I have their original Spinnaker One. I used it on the PCT. It’s still going. Still waterproof, still spacious and light.
