My imagination has been captured by the Goat Rocks Wilderness. Love the name, love to see goats, love the pics of the area I’ve seen online. Looking to spend 7-10 days next September hiking in the area with a friend or two; thinking of doing two 3-5 day loops from one or two trailheads where I could leave a vehicle. For anyone who knows the area, what suggestions do you have for me in terms of best loops, best campsites, best not-to-be-missed stuff?

Cispus Pass is glorious.
How many miles a day for you, about?
I would generally hike 10-12 miles/day, but could enjoy less or occasionally more miles than that. More than 15 would be too many.
Nice area. Â I’ve been there many times.
A loop is up Goat Lake trail and down Snowgrass Flat trail, but it’s only 12.5 miles. Â A number of good sites between Goat Lake and Snowgrass Flat. Â Extra mile to go up to Hawkeye Point. Â You can often see goats above Goat Lake.
Then you could go off on the PCT to Old Snowy, about 3 miles. Â Highest point in Goat Rocks. Â PCT is pretty nice through there and if you keep going another mile or so.
Or keep going past another 5 miles and head over to McCall Basin – alpine meadowy area with Goat Rocks behind it.
Or you could go the other direction on the PCT. Â It’s about a mile to some nice campsites, another 2 miles to Cispus Pass. Â I saw some goats there a couple years ago.
